Shu Uemura Cleansing Beauty Oil Review

March 5, 2008

Beauty Beat Rating: 4 out of 5

Skin Purifier Cleansing Beauty Oil Premium A/O is a facial cleanser from the Shu Uemura skincare line. This “#1 selling Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil” is advertised as a “premium, anti-aging and anti-oxidant skin purifier that thoroughly cleanses the skin while protecting it against the internal and external aggressions associated with aging.”

Shu Uemura Cleansing Beauty Oil contains Green Tea Extract

The chief ingredient in this cleansing oil is Green Tea Extract. This Antioxidant is one of Beauty Beat’s favorite ingredients. The properties of Green Tea that have been shown to be potent antioxidants are Flavonoid Phytochemicals (referred to as Polyphenols). The percentage of Polyphenols found in Green Tea is significantly higher than those contained in Black Tea. Studies have demonstrated that the use of topical Green Tea reduces sun damage, and its Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties may slow down signs of aging.

Oil Without Oilyness

Shu Uemura Skin Purifier Cleansing Beauty Oil Premium A/O may be long in name, but is not short in quality. This facial cleanser did not strip my skin of its natural oils, and effectively removed makeup while providing a thorough (yet gentle!) cleansing. Since my skin tends to be dry, the oil formulation of this cleanser worked very well. Additionally, the Company states Cleansing Beauty Oil Premium A/O is suitable for all skin types.

My only qualm with respect to Cleansing Beauty Oil Premium A/O is its high price. A well-known dermatologist once said to me (hint hint she often graces the pages of Vogue Magazine) that it is not worth it to spend a lot on a cleanser due to the short amount of time the product actually stays on the face. Point well taken, but still need to be particularly careful when it comes to overly zealous cleansers (see Beauty Beat’s review “The Dirty on Soap"). Due to the steep price this product commands for a cleanser, my wallet may be experiencing some “aggressions,” but my anti-aging skin is surely not complaining!

Price: $32 for 5 oz.
$72 for 15.2 oz.
