Leaf & Rusher Rapid Resurface Review

February 27, 2008

Beauty Beat Rating: 5 out of 5

Rapid Resurface is an exfoliating product for the face from the Leaf & Rusher skincare line of Beverly Hills. Dr. Leaf (a renowned plastic surgeon) and Rand Rusher (a registered nurse) collaborated on this line to create high-end skincare products that contain antioxidants and botanical extracts.

Importance of Exfoliating

Exfoliating is an important step in maintaining healthy skin. When we are younger, the cell turnover – the removal of dead skin cells– is a natural process, and is why our skin looks healthy and taut. The outer layer of the skin normally renews itself every 30 days. As each new layer of cells is formed, the older layers get pushed to the surface. When these cells move to the surface they should be naturally exfoliated, or “sloughed off.” As we age, too many dead skin cells may remain on the surface which can give a “dull appearance.” Additionally, these layers of dead skin cells form a barrier that interferes with the hydrating and nourishing effects of moisturizers. In order to achieve a “healthy glow” on the face, it is necessary to get rid of the old, dead cells to reveal younger and healthier looking skin underneath.

Leaf & Rusher Rapid Resurface Ingredients

Rapid Resurface is promoted as a manual exfoliant for the face that serves as a gentle alternative to Microdermabrasion. This cosmetic procedure is typically performed in a doctor's office or medical spa and uses a a mechanical abrasion, such as a light vacuum with aluminum crystals, to remove the surface layer of the skin. A manual exfoliant also serves as an alternative to Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), such as Glycolic Acid, which, if over -used, may be too strong on the skin. Unlike microdermabrasion, Rapid Resurface does not contain aluminum and uses Rice Powder, Calcified Algae, as well as Green Tea to gently and effectively “buff away” old, dull cells. Green Tea, one of Beauty Beat's favorite ingredients, contains the potent Antioxidant Flavonoid Phytochemicals (referred to as Polyphenols). The percentage of Polyphenols found in Green Tea is significantly higher than those contained in Black Tea. Studies have demonstrated the use of topical Green Tea reduces sun damage, and its Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties may slow down signs of aging.

Rapid Resurface has a fresh, clean scent and, after use of this product, my skin looked rejuvenated and complexion renewed (better yet, without the use of harsh chemicals!). I find that using Rapid Resurface twice a week on my face does the trick. Dr. Leaf states that Leaf & Rusher products are “Tested On Celebrities, Not Animals.” In addition to being a strong supporter of anti-aging, My Beauty Beat is also a strong proponent of anti-animal testing (love your furry friends!). And although I am not anti-celebrity, I consider Rapid Resurface to be an excellent exfoliating product that, pores AND paws down, has the best selling point!

Price: $48 for 2.6 oz.
