About MyBeautyBeat.com

About Founder

aboutus (2).jpgLike many women, I love beauty products, as well as learning about new and cutting-edge treatments.  I spend a great deal of time reading, discussing, and perusing the litany of products available in today’s market, with an emphasis on skincare.  My experience has been typical of many converted "sun worshipers."  Growing up in Manhattan, I was always sunbathing at "tar beach" (i.e. the roof!).  I loved lying in the sun armed with a bottle of Bain de Soleil Tan Accelerator SPF 0 (or was that -50?!).  It was with great pleasure that I admired my deep, dark tan.  Alas, all good (?) things must come to an end, and, as I got older, I began to (finally) take seriously warnings about the hazardous effects of the sun.  Becoming increasingly aware of the prevalence of skin cancer, combined with a whole 'lot of vanity, I wanted to reverse the damage I brought to my skin through the years, and prevent any unnecessary aging.  Therein was born my love affair with skin care products.

After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia Business School, I worked on "Wall Street" for many years in the equities market.  During this time period, I specialized in the biotechnology sector, and began to combine my passion for high quality products with an understanding of the science behind the ingredients.  I studied the industry through education, research and development, as well as by conferring with dermatologists, aestheticians, and manufacturing laboratories.  Working in my home kitchen with cosmetic substances, I tested individual ingredients and learned which work well (and are worth the money!)

With My Beauty Beat, I offer a purely objective viewpoint.  I hope you find My Beauty Beat's thoughts and recommendations helpful in determining which are the most effective products and treatments for you.  Please feel free to contact us with any questions, comments, or suggestions for skin care products you would like to see reviewed!

With warm regards,
Jacqueline

About My Beauty Beat

Welcome to your Beauty Beat!  We hope to help women and men of all ages understand their skin, and learn which products and treatments really work.  By becoming educated about a product or treatment’s ingredients and components, we hope to help you select those items most beneficial for your individual needs.

Due to numerous advances in the anti-aging market, there is a dizzying array of products and treatments to select from in order to "turn back the hands of time."  Some offer basic care, others promise radical results.  Some have "old standby" ingredients, others contain extraordinary components (from creams handcrafted in a remote European monastery to Seaweed from the Dead Sea to human growth factors!).

What truly works?  Most "over-the-counter" products cannot alter the skin.  To do so, would require FDA approval.  Cosmetics companies are not required to prove if or how their products work on the skin’s appearance and, subsequently, often state on a label that the product "improves the appearance of the skin."  Anti-aging products are commonly referred to as "cosmeceuticals," and, since these products do not require the approval of the FDA, they may or may not be backed by scientific testing.  Many products have been shown to help smooth skin tone, promote Collagen production, and offset sun damage.  There is a huge variance when it comes to cost, and the majority of over-the-counter products simply "improve appearance" by hydrating the face.

My Beauty Beat encourages our readers to realize that price has no correlation to efficacy, and we should not be fooled by high prices, luxury packaging, and convincing salespeople.  Let’s face it, if someone tells us a particular product will make us look younger, wouldn’t we be tempted to buy it even if it is out of our price range?!  Many products sold in drugstores and natural food stores offer the same ingredients as those in high-end, department stores, but at more affordable prices.  However, this is not meant to imply that "luxury" products are not worth the money since there are many which are terrific.  Rather, the intent is to filter through the vast amount of offerings currently on the market and analyze the beneficial value of the products.

My Beauty Beat reviews skin care products and treatments in our Beauty Beat email newsletter.  By examining specific ingredients and components, Beauty Beat rates products for their effectiveness and determines whether the cost justifies the effect.  Please take a moment to Sign Up to start receiving your own Beauty Beat email!
